Kannazuki no Miko

Synopsis: Kannazuki no Miko is the story of Himeko and Chikane, the reincarnations of the Solar and Lunar Miko, respectively. They are two high school girls going to the prestigious Ototachibana Academy of Mahoroba, Japan. When an ancient evil rises once more, the girls are plunged into destiny as their long-sealed personas awaken to defend the world against the Orochi. The Miko must awaken Ame no Murakumo in order to combat the threat while Sōma, the Orochi turned protector, repels the Orochi efforts to kill them. -Source: Wikipedia

Finally, a good yuri series since Simoun. I’m quite surprised as to how this turned out. I wasn’t expecting much after reading the synopsis by ANN. It seemed uneventful, but I needed my yuri dosage that I’ve been lacking since watching the great Simoun almost a year ago. (*^_^*)

The two protagonists first meet, unknowing of their fated destinies.

The eternal conflict Chikane struggled with was beautiful; the emotions she conveyed as she watched and encouraged her lover, Himeko, pursue her love life. I never realized how many series I’ve watched that stars the talented voice work of Kawasumi Ayako. I must say that even though she doesn’t make my top ten favourites list, she definitely makes my top ten talented list.

I’m the second half you’re waiting for.

As I’m horrible at reviews, I can only try to give my opinion on this anime without ruining anything. For one, the ending was so touching – I only wished that they had finished the anime with the manga ending. I would’ve probably cried less. If the priestesses didn’t reincarnate, there would be no Orochi attacking everyone, and everybody would be living happily ever after. I like how they concealed the reasons for Chikane’s malicious acts until the very end. It only puts people like me at the edge of their seats hungering for more. Another weakness for a dark-haired bishoujo, tsundere heroine. Chikane reminded me of Hazuki from Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabito, better known by its shorter name, Yamibou.

I’ll never let go…

I subconsciously downloaded Kannazuki for Mami’s voice work. So the yuri was a plus (not the kind you’d find in Strawberry Panic!), as well as Ayako having the lead role. In my bias state, I wished that Mami could have gotten the lead role, but IMHO, I think Ayako won out on this one. Mami’s whispery voice wouldn’t have cut it for Chikane’s role. (>_<)

And to end off this boring, uninformative entry on Kannazuki no Miko, with thumbnails of the last ep. (Click to enlarge.)

  2. Oh, er, thanks. I just cap my own screens. It’s not that difficult…the only problem is having to go through all the episodes again to find the ones I want. (>_<) Yuri doesn’t make most people’s anime/manga lists, so there aren’t too many (fans) out there to support them, unfortunately. (;д;)
