Summer 2008

It’s finally the weekend. Thank goodness there’s only 3 days of summer school left until my exam. Technically, it’s only one full day, as Monday is presentations for our ISU and we’re going to the Science Center on Tuesday to watch a film.

In other news, happy belated birthdays to everyone born in July, and happy early birthday to those coming up. My sister finally got her G1 after much hassle and haggle on the parental parts. She also got a full-time job, so now it’s her turn to buy me stuff. :D

After next week, summer is officially here for me.

First on the list is camping for the long weekend in Peterborough. I still remember when I took ASL, our instructor, Cody, used to drive up every day from his little hometown of Peterborough just to teach us sign language. He was the coolest guy ever. If anyone can sign ‘cat’ and ‘dog’ simultaneously with both hands, you get a reward of $10. :P

I haven’t talked about anime in a while, but I did begin to download and watch some of the new stuff that’s coming out. Unfortunately, the Spring 2008 anime subbers are a little behind, so I have to wait until they catch up. For now, I’ll watch some old stuff I haven’t gotten a chance to watch, and hopefully this summer season will be more promising than the last.

Either than school and work, I haven’t been up to much lately. It’s sad how I still go to bed late and wake up early in the morning even though it’s summer. When school starts again, I have to get up even earlier due to time changes. *Sigh.* Next year is the absolute end to my social and carefree life. And besides, I really do have to study hard to get into university.

I’m currently rewatching the Korean drama Dae Jang-geum (大長今). It is absolutely fantastic. As inspirational as that drama can be, I do wonder if I’m ever capable enough to achieve my goals the way the main character does. This drama is separated into different arcs, and I’m currently on the arc where she trains to become a medical professional. In the beginning of the OP theme song, she says, “No one will make me give up. I will never give up.” The way she said it just makes me even more depressed, knowing that I’m more well off then her (contextually), but I don’t do anything about my life – where to go, what to strive for, what to accomplish. Hopefully I can regain confidence and strive towards a new goal. There’s no going back now. The path I walk only continues straight ahead.

I haven’t watched dramas in so long. I’ve been watching so much anime and I’ve been neglecting the goodness of human drama. Dae Jang-geum is something worth rewatching over and over again – even if it has 50+ episodes spanning 40 minutes, that I can sit through, but not if it’s a 20 min, 50+ ep anime series.
I actually really miss ARIA. That’s the best slice-of-life anime I’ve ever watched. The manga is absolutely beautiful as well. I might go and rewatch it after I finish Nodame Cantabile. The Jdrama for Nodame was hilariously good. It made a top on my list. Featuring splendid music for the ears as well.

Too bad my summer is cut short this year! Not only by summer school, but work as well. Hopefully I’ll have my own time to go out and hang out with friends in August instead of being the hermit I have been for the past many years. I really need to get out and breathe. Oh, speaking of August, I have an appointment the day we get back from camping to get my wisdom teeth removed. Gotta keep that in check. I’m going to be groggy and slurping congee all week. Hey, at least I can make this an excuse to lose some weight.

P.S. I’m a closet fan of everyone in my blogroll. :3
